Casio TM-100 Transmitter Watch

 Youtube Direktwatch, Danke Robert!

WANT!

In 1987, Casio released the TM-100, a most unusual digital watch. On the surface, it appears to be a normal time-telling model but deep inside Casio embedded circuitry to transmit audio signals. Flip the little lever above the display, raise the telescopic antenna and speak or play music into the little microphone and the TM-100 will broadcast the audio to nearby radios! A tiny tuning knob allows you to calibrate the preferred frequency on the FM band (specifically, the Japanese FM band which is 76-90MHz and a portion of the US FM band, 87.5-108MHz). The case is all plastic and it requires two batteries, one for the timekeeping feature and one for the transmitter.

Knights of the Round Table-Watch

The Knights of the Round Table had a solemn motto: “Courage and generosity”. For Roger Dubuis, this is its purpose in life. Drawing inspiration from the exploits of King Arthur’s knights, the Geneva Manufacture has created a series of 88 exceptional pieces distinguished by their boldness and steeped in history. 12 heroes and their swords cast in gold encircle a striking enamelled dial while the automatic movement RD822 beats below. The scene is symbolic. Most of the adventures of the gallant knights were initiated in meetings at the round table.

Their courage knew no bounds, their faith was unshakeable, they were the Knights of the Round Table. Courage was their paramount value and according to the legend, they went from battle to battle, from victory to victory, upholding these values. While their heroism built their reputation, what confirmed their legendary status was their search for the Holy Grail.

Lancelot, the most valiant knight, was considered to be the purest of them all when he brought back the precious object to his sovereign. Thus was he granted the honour of a seat at the round table. Merlin declared: “Around this table, all in equality, will sit the most valiant knights. From this room, they will set out to seek challenges, to undo wrongs, to protect the weak and to bring down the proud.”

Vintage Skull Watch from 18th Century

Watches and clocks with the memento mori motifs were not uncommon, dating from the mid 17th Century to the 1930s. This early Verge silver skull pivots at the top of the cranium, whereas others pivot from the jaw. There are others created that fold open at the top of the head with enamel and diamonds, but pieces like these are extremely rare and command a high price.

Pac Mac-Watch made from Moon Rocks and Apollo 11-Parts

Romain Jerome is once again taking you on a crazy round of video games with a limited series of 80 watches designed after the cult PAC-MAN™. In association with NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. RJ-Romain Jerome is bringing the famous insatiable yellow character back to life with four series of 20 pieces paying tribute to this generational flagship Eighties icon. INSERT COIN! […]

LET’S PLAY … Having inherited the highly distinctive case of the Moon Invader collection, a circle in a cambered 46 mm square, the PAC-MAN watches also feature steel fused with fragments of Apollo 11. The four ball-and-socket joints at the corners of the case are functional and designed like the legs of the lunar landing module in American lunar expeditions. Boasting a highly sophisticated construction, and mounted on axles anchored in the case, these ball-and-socket joints hold the lugs of the rubber straps and their mobility make the watch easily adaptable to all wrist sizes. On the back of the watch, a disc made of Moon SilverRJ – a low-oxidation silver fused with moon rocks – reproduces the surface of the Moon. Each of the three dial levels is engraved with a pixelated matrix. The lower two levels are beadblasted, while the upper level features straight-grained edges. The characters and fruits adorning the dial stem from meticulous craftsmanship. Machined piece by piece, applied by hand and gem-set, they are subsequently lacquered with different colours or with black superluminova “green emission”, thus recreating actual game sequences. POWER UP!

Plane Engine Watches

The case of HM4 blends high-tech titanium for its lightweight and strength with a sapphire centre section offering a view into the engine. The limited editions HM4 Razzle Dazzle and Double Trouble take the aviation theme even further with real rivets in their fuselages and hand painted nose art inspired by the rebellious paintings on WWII aircraft, while HM4 RT offers an altogether more luxurious way to fly.

The Thunderbolt’s engine is the culmination of three long years of development. Each of the 300-plus components – including the regulator and even the screws – was developed specifically for this anarchistic calibre. Horizontally configured dual mainspring barrels drive two vertical gear trains, transferring power to the twin pods indicating hours/minutes and power reserve.

Dan Spitz: Anthrax-Guitarist, Maker of Watches

Ich hab’ mir tatsächlich vor ein paar Tagen erst mal wieder Anthrax’ „Among the Living“ (I am the Law!) auf Spotisfy angehört, da lese ich, dass Ex-Gitarrist Dan Spitz jetzt Uhren baut und da richtig gut ist. Awesome!

“When it comes to a watch’s quality, the truth is that the movement sucks ass or the movement kicks ass. With me, you are going to get the heavy metal answer from the heavy metal dude.”

Dan Spitz, former lead guitarist for thrash metal band Anthrax, has sold more than 15 million albums, been nominated for 3 Grammy’s, created over 10 studio albums – and now he is recognized as one of the best watchmakers in the world. After leading one of the greatest metal bands of all time, he abruptly departed Anthrax and pursued numerous courses of study to master the art of watchmaking.

Antikythera Mechanism rebuilt as a Watch

 Youtube Direktantikythera

Awesome!

This video is a tribute from Swiss clock-maker Hublot and film-maker Philippe Nicolet to this device, known as the Antikythera Mechanism, or the world’s “first computer”. The fragments of the Mechanism were discovered in 1901 by sponge divers near the island of Antikythera. It is kept since then at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece.

For more than a century, researchers were trying to understand its functions. Since 2005, a pluridisciplinary research team, the “Antikythera Mechanism Research Project”, is studying the Mechanism with the latest high tech available.

The results of this ongoing research has enabled the construction of many models. Amongst them, the unique mechanism of a watch, designed by Hublot as a tribute to the Mechanism, is incorporating the known functions of this mysterious and fascinating ancient Mechanism.

Romain Jeromes 10000$ Space Invaders-Watch made from Moon Rocks and Apollo 11-Parts

Inheriting the highly distinctive case of the Moon Invader series (a round shape within a cambered 46 mm square, with a round front and an almost rectangular back), the SPACE INVADERS have also kept the same steel coalesced with fragments from the Apollo 11 capsule. It is no coincidence that this case is designed like a strongbox, or even like a space vessel capable of travelling great distances, since that kind of vehicle is exactly what is needed to facilitate the SPACE INVADERS colonisation of our daily lives.

The four functional ball-and-socket joints of this rounded squares are cut like the pivoting « feet » of the lunar landing modules of the American lunar missions. These extremely sophisticated components mounted on axles anchored in the case hold the lugs of the rubber straps and enable the watch to adjust to all kinds of wrist sizes.

Embodying another tangible token of the space age symbolised by this new SPACE INVADERS collection, a dedicated plate made of Moon Silver – a silver alloy with an extremely low oxidisation rate incorporating moon rocks – appears on the stellar-patterned back of the watch. This engraved plate reproduces the lunar surface, of which the mineral particles interact on an infra-molecular level with the wearer of the watch. The veined pattern and grainy texture also extend along the rubber strap.
