The Yes Men Are Revolting

The Yes Men Are Revolting.

The Yes Men Are Revolting completes a trilogy of funny feature docs we started a decade ago. In our first film, The Yes Men (2004), we posed as spokespeople for the World Trade Organization, acting out comedic vigilante justice against the elite. In The Yes Men Fix the World (2009), we delivered a bunch of hard-hitting, hilarious stunts that show why we must change our corporations-first system, and what’s in store if we don’t. The Yes Men Are Revolting will be even more jam-packed with screwball comedy, nail-biting suspense, nasty stings, and informative documentary. It’ll also have a gripping personal storyline the first two films lacked—as well as a human-staffed platform to convert viewer enthusiasm into direct action, letting everyone join in the fun and contribute to the movement for change.

The Yes Men on doing Public Relations

Yes MenSchöner neuer Clip aus der kommenden Arte-Doku Everyday Rebellion. Diesmal erklären die Yes Men, wie man anständige PR betreibt.

The world-famous detractors of globalization named Yes Men from the United States have already embarrassed some major corporations with their anarchist and subversive activism. One of their creative methods of nonviolent resistance is to deliberately mislead the mainstream media. Group members like to adopt certain roles of representatives of international corporations and to caricature their goals in conferences exaggerating with their claims. They refer to this method as “identity correction”.

A new lesson by the Yes Men: “Make life easier for the journalists and help them to write a good article!”

Creative Rebellion: The Yes Men

Toll.

The Bankster ist not a Yes Man and Goldman Sachs rules the world

(Youtube Direkthoax, via Dangerous Minds)

We’ve never heard of Rastani. Despite widespread speculation, he isn’t a Yes Man. He’s a real trader who is, for one reason or another, being more honest than usual. Who in big banking doesn’t bet against the interests of the poor and find themselves massively recompensed—if not by the market, then by humongous taxpayer bailouts? Rastani’s approach has been completely mainstream for several years now; we must thank him for putting a human face on it yesterday.

The Yes Men Fix The World – Special Peer-2-Peer-Edition

(Youtube Direktyes, via Popkontext, danke Nils!)

THE YES MEN FIX THE WORLD is a screwball true story about two gonzo political activists who, posing as top executives of giant corporations, lie their way into big business conferences and pull off the world’s most outrageous pranks. This peer-to-peer special edition of the film is unique: it is preceded by an EXCLUSIVE VIDEO of the Yes Men impersonating the United States Chamber of Commerce. Because the Yes Men are being sued for this stunt, p2p is the only way that this film will get seen. Please spread the word!

We have been impersonating people in power in to make political points for over a decade. The Yes Men Fix the World is our second feature film. It’s won a bucket of awards and accolades, but we’re still broke. We are hoping that people who share it will donate some money so that we can do even more outrageous actions.

How outrageous? Outrageous enough to get us sued! Not long ago The US Chamber of Commerce took us to court for impersonating them. That is why on this special p2p version of the Yes Men Fix the World, we have included an exclusive video that the US Chamber of Commerce does not want you to see. You can only see this surprising film on the exclusive VODO p2p release.

One final note: making films takes lots of hard work. And money. We busted our asses to make this film and still owe our friends barrels of cash they loaned us. By supporting us and joining the Yes Men Labs, you not only get a membership card and an entry into the prize draw, you also help us to pay all those people back and fund future projects. We’re sharing by P2P because we made this film to be watched, and with your help we’ll able to carry on with what we love doing.

[update] Auf Torrentfreak gibt’s ein Statement der Yes Men:

“There are a few reasons why we chose BitTorrent. First off, it’s a way to avoid censorship,” Mike Bonanno told TorrentFreak. “This version includes video of an action against the US Chamber of Commerce that we are being sued for. No commercial outlets will touch it. We had a TV show scheduled on Planet Green and their lawyers nearly wet themselves when they heard we wanted to use footage of us making political mince-meant out of the largest lobbying organization in the world.”

TV-Tipp: The Yes Men fix the world (UPDATE: Auch auf Arte+7)

(Youtube Direktyesmen, via Spreeblick)

Hätte ich jetzt fast verpasst: In fünf Minuten, also um 21 Uhr, beginnt auf Arte die Doku „The Yes Men fix the world“, über die ich schonmal bei Spreeblick gebloggt hatte. Snip von der Filmwebsite:

They have an unusual hobby: posing as top executives of corporations they hate. Armed with nothing but thrift-store suits, the Yes Men lie their way into business conferences and parody their corporate targets in ever more extreme ways – basically doing everything that they can to wake up their audiences to the danger of letting greed run our world.

One day Andy, purporting to be a Dow Chemical spokesperson, gets on the biggest TV news program in the world and announces that Dow will finally clean up the site of the largest industrial accident in history, the Bhopal catastrophe. The result: as people worldwide celebrate, Dow’s stock value loses two billion dollars. People want Dow to do the right thing, but the market decides that it can’t.

The reality hits Andy and Mike like a ton of bricks: we have created a market system that makes doing the right thing impossible, and the people who appear to be leading are actually following its pathological dictates. If we keep putting the market in the driver’s seat, it could happily drive the whole planet off a cliff.

Danach auf einem Torrent-Tracker of your choice.)

Exxon vs. Yes Men

yes1.jpg

One day after the Yes Men made a joke announcement that ExxonMobil plans to turn billions of climate-change victims into a brand-new fuel called Vivoleum, the Yes Mens upstream internet service provider shut down Vivoleum.com, the Yes Mens spoof website, and cut off the Yes Mens email service, in reaction to a complaint whose source they will not identify. The provider, Broadview Networks, also made the Yes Men remove all mention of Exxon from TheYesMen.org before theyd restore the Yes Mens email service.

The Yes Men assume the complainant was Exxon. Since parody is protected under US law, Exxon must think that people seeing the site will think Vivoleums a real Exxon product, not just a parody, said Yes Man Mike Bonanno. Exxons policies do already contribute to 150,000 climate-change related deaths each year, added Yes Man Andy Bichlbaum. So maybe it really is credible. What a resource!
